bren wondered if "vital" would seem to be the work of the real in the lacanian sense. psyko agreed, in particular that represational space sounded like the real of Lacan--that which can not be symbolized. bren wondered if perhaps the symbolic was a more appropriate parallel. bren compared the nietzschean notion of space as a field of becomings with leibniz' notion: the idea is that there's a fundamental field of forces within which objects come into being.
chatterly wondered if the semiotic can embody space in the same way as the imaginary, understanding the semiotic as living off of, through, other spaces, created spacing. This notion is a bit at odds with Lefebvre, who seems to put semiotic system within representations of space. chatterly also noted that the semiotic, the chora, is experienced in a certain proximity, which cannot be translated into representational space until (or unless) the "thetic break" is somehow crossed. She wondered how exactly it would fit into a schema of "lacanian imaginary" and HL's "representational space..."
psyko says, "I'am not sure that the difference between Lacan and guattary is so great, Lacan is the background for Guattary. He uses the concept of object a, and he accepts the structural perspective as necessary." psyko's general impression is that Freud and Lacan describe the general equivalents in subjectivation - like the phallus, the name of the father etc., without criticizing them. Freud and Lacan describe the modern capitalistic society. psyko says, "guattary and lefebvre "attack" it and try to show us something else . . . " psyko asks, "you know the Lacanian slogan "Le pre ou pire"?" psyko says, "Lacan was afraid of a society without the general equivalents"
