CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS 1k+1, in conjuction with UVA's Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities, is sponsoring an online seminar entitled "Postmodern Spacings." This seminar will address contemporary figurations of space and spatiality, both online and in the real world. Problems of geography, cartography, urbanity, and embodiment will be discussed from a variety of perspectives. Selected authors will include Lefebvre, Haraway, Deleuze, Derrida, and Debord. The seminar will be open to a variety of theoretical and disciplinary approaches.
The goal of the seminar will be to produce a single hypermedia "article" to be published online. Seminar participant will collaborate online via email, listservs, and virtual environments. Each participant will be responsible for leading real-time and asynchronious discussions, as well as writing a portion of the final hypermedia piece.
POSTMODERN SPACINGS is the first seminar in a series of projects sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Technologies in the Humanties, entitled Mechanical Planet.
1k+1, the co-sponsor of this seminar, is a text-based virtual reality located at hero.village.virginia.edu 7777. You need not have any familiarity with computer programming or virtual environments to take part in this seminar.
